Reducing (our) impact starts with measurement…

In 2020, we made Mother Nature our CEO to ensure nature was placed at the centre of everything we do. In 2022, we became the 1st European plant-based cheese B Corp and remain the highest scoring cheese or butter B Corp globally.

By measuring our impact, we have gained invaluable insights into how to reduce our footprint further. Through integrating the findings of this report we can improve our ways of working and play a role in advancing towards a more sustainable food industry!

This report lays out the carbon emission numbers of our products per kilogram and compares it to the industry standard. Our calculations include the agricultural processes, production, packaging, transportation, and end-of-life for packaging.

We calculated the emissions of each product:

Original Better and Young Dutch are shown as examples below.

…and compared it to dairy products as well as our plant-based competitors.

Here is what we found:

  • Cashews are the highest-emitting ingredient.

  • Our products are up to 25x lower in emissions than the equivalent dairy alternative.

. Willicroft regularly outperforms other plant-based alternatives.

Help us improve:

We constantly aim to improve and stay true to our CEO, Mother Nature.

Monitoring our impact is only a part of this approach. Applying the learnings from this report to our operational practices helped us locate key aspects of logistics, production, and the distribution of our products that will be improved. By implementing these changes, we actively contribute to a more sustainable food industry moving forward!

That way, we aim to consistently provide you with the best tasting plant-based dairy alternatives that are equally good for you as they are for Mother Nature!

Sourcing and Disclaimers

  1. Our data has been gathered directly from our suppliers to calculate our products’ emissions.

  2. We used reference/competitor and industry averages to complement any missing data that we couldn’t collect from our suppliers.

  3. We also sourced data from scientific journals and reverse engineered some of our products lifecycle outputs; meaning that we retrieved some data by breaking down the final product.

  4. By using Mobius (by Ecochain) to build our LCAs in one software tool, we were able to reference data from Ecoinvent.

  5. Any references that were missing in the Ecoinvent database were complemented with data from our primary source CarbonCloud. CarbonCloud was chosen as our main data source as it is updated regularly, making it more reliable than scientific research or other sources that can become outdated quickly.

  6. Willicroft’s impact team has been guided by Narrate, a boutique impact management consultancy to ensure a high level of accuracy regarding impact strategy and intelligence.
