There are 2 simple reasons why dairy cheese is cheaper than plant-based - scale and subsidies. The first we can control, the second we're looking to influence. We're not expecting governments to stop subsidising the dairy industry but will be campaigning for similar subsidies for plant-based goods.
We've partnered with the ProVeg, TAPCC and the Green Protein Alliance to tackle these issues as a collective. Through the TAPCC there is increasing appetite for the introduction of of a carbon tax and we will be continuing to push the virtues and benefits of such an initiative.
Whilst Amendment 165 was recently upheld 171 was passed and is far more damaging. For plant-based producers this stipulates the banning of the word cheese, prohibits health and emission claims to dairy, and prevents the use of dairy like packaging. We will be fighting all of these changes until common sense prevails.
